Types of Massage
Swedish Massage
Swedish massage is the most common and best-known type of massage in the West. If it is your first time or you don't get massage very often, then swedish massage may be perfect for you. During your massage we lubricate the skin with massage oil and perform various massage strokes. These movements warm up the muscle tissue, releasing tension and gradually breaking up muscle "knots" or adheared tissues called adhesions. Swedish massage promotes relaxation among other health benefits.
Deep Tissue Massage
Deep tissue massage is a type of massage aimed at the deeper tissue structures of the muscle and fascia also called connective tissue. Deep tissue massage uses many of the same movements and techniques as Swedish massage but the pressure will generally be more intense. It is also a more focused type of massage as we work to release chronic muscle tension or knots known as adhesions. It shouldn't hurt, but it is likely to be a bit more uncomfortable than a classic Swedish massage. Please always speak up during your session to let us know if the pressure is too light or too deep - everyone has a different pain threshold. it is important to drink a lot of water after a deep tissue massage to help flush lactic acid out of the tissues. It's possible that you may feel some soreness the day after a deep tissue massage even if you DO drink water. This means a lot of waste products were flushed out of the tissues. It should pass within a day or so.
Hot Stone Massage
Hot stone massage is a specialty massage where we use smooth heated stones either as an extension of our hands, or by placing them on the body while massaging areas. The heat can be deeply relaxing and help warm up tight muscles so we can work more deeply. Our hot stone massage can be scheduled as a 1-hour session or as an add-on for a particular body area with a deep tissue massage. (Hot stone massage is not appropriate if you have diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease or are on medication that thins the blood. You shouldn't get a hot stone massage if you are pregnant or have a sunburn. You may also want to reconsider if you are menopausal as it may trigger a hot flash.)
Myofascial Release
Myofascial Release is a safe and very effective hands-on technique that involves applying gentle sustained pressure into the Myofascial connective tissue restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion.
Neuromuscular Therapy
Neuromuscular therapy is a specialized form of deep tissue massage in which digital pressure and friction are used to release areas of strain in the muscle. These areas of strain are called tender or trigger points and are the cause of muscular pain symptoms.
Sports Massage (Pre & Post Event)
Sports massage is the specific application of massage techniques, hydrotherapy, range of motion/flexibility protocols and strength-training principles to achieve a specific goal when treating an athlete either pre or post event.
Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy massage is massage therapy but with highly concentrated plant oils, called essential oils , added to the massage oil or lotion. Each essential oil has different healing properties where some calm while others energize. Aromatherapy massage is particularly suited to conditions involving stress or improving emotionally-related conditions and can be added on to any of the massages we offer.
